Why can’t I use a carpet cleaner that uses steam cleaning for my oriental rug?

Cleaning a rug with a “carpet wand” used by professional carpet cleaners will only clean an area rug topically. The steam generated by carpet cleaners is caused by heat, which is not recommended for wool or silk rugs. Similar to cleaning a clothing garment, a submerged hand wash with a mild soap is the only way to properly cleaning a fine area rug. Then the rug needs to be dried efficiently opposed to laying wet on your flooring.
